“We do both in-house and traveling services, so we can go to the wedding parties or they can come here,” said Susie, “and if you need help booking services, Synergy has a long and very helpful list of local limo services, boat charter services and photographers.” While Synergy has been in existence for more than 12 years – part of which was spent in their first location in the Straw Market on Kiawah – the popular little day spa is kicking off the new year with a new image.

Maxine’s room is dedicated to medical and sports therapy massage and Stacey’s facial and skin care room is the perfect place for full body scrubs. There’s Emily’s room which is soft and simple with little perfume except for the occasional waft of Tibetan healing oils, and Kristi’s room which reverberates with warmth and the soft scent of Lotus touch organic massage creams.

First time visitors notice the tall windows and extra-cushy lounge chairs in the nail salon, but what they don’t see are the four spacious rooms in back, each one specifically designed for the comfort and relaxation of the client. On arriving at Synergy, the initial appearance of the spa can be deceiving. “We genuinely want people to feel good about themselves. “It’s a complete spa experience like nothing else,” said Collette.
From Susie Stroupe’s 13 years as owner and operator known for her spa pedicure experiences that leave recipients feeling rejuvenated to Collette’s 25 years as a master stylist, wedding expert and color stylist Catherine Krause’s 20 years as a master stylist with specialization in cut and color Stacey Weeks’ 6 years as an esthetician and nail technician Emily White’s healing hands as a massage therapist and Kristi Wertan’s six years in the same field specializing in deep tissue massage, Maxine Peterman’s 7 years in the same field specializing in sports and medical massage, the Synergy Team is thoroughly prepared to offer the most in-depth and relaxing day spa experience on the islands. Synergy Day Spa is comprised of a talented group of women versed in just about every aspect of pampering.
Not only is she in love with the view, she’s found a group of professionals whom she already considers family. Collette, a master hair stylist and 25 year veteran of the industry, worked for several years at The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island before moving to Freshfields and finally to Synergy Day Spa where she has found her home. In fact, the southern ocean was the main reason she and her family made the journey to Charleston and eventually, to Kiawah Island. The scene is a far cry from Collette’s home of northern England, where a summer day on the beach often involves layers of sweaters, coats and scarves. Outside, the sun danced on the ripples of a long-passed boat wake as it washed between the harbored boats and marsh grass.
“It is absolutely beautiful here,” said Collette Armstrong as she glanced out of the tall plate glass windows of Synergy Day Spa at Bohicket Marina.
